YOUNG LIT + PHIL

The brief called for research and observation of how the society is composed and how it could increase it's presence through a new outpost facility. The scheme was anchored on the huge coal mining industry that historically dominated the North East of England, and in particular Newcastle upon Tyne. It required analysis of light and shadow to inform both expansive and cavenous spaces.

The long history of the coal mining industry in the North East plays into the future of the Literary and Philosophical Society.

Experimenting with well lit and dark cavernous spaces that relate to occupied library zones.

The geographic plan of Northumberland is fragmented to form irregular, fractured and habitable spaces.
