The Wish Tower

Lighthouse competition- Cyprus School of Architecture

Shortlisted

"Traditionally, the purpose of the lighthouse was to warn sailors of dangerous coastline and act as a land mark for navigation. However, the beacon also became an emblem of safe passage, of guidance and of comfort. Through it’s lantern it provided a visual and emotional connection between those on land and those out at sea.

The Wish Tower provides an opportunity for those on the beach to send their wishes to loved ones far away. After climbing the tower to a private elevated platform, visitors whisper their message into one of the listening horns. Their message is acknowledged with the illumination of the tower’s lamp, and the message is carried to it’s destination in the wind."
